Who We Are

Meet the Experts of Greenwich Village North.

The driving force behind the innovative Greenwich Village North eco-resort is Fortune Bay Ecolodge Designs Ltd., managed by Phil Ferraro and Nancy Willis.

Phil Ferraro, M.A., Social Ecology; B.A. Education; developer of sustainable community projects in New England and Canada for the past twenty years, and has taught environmental studies at the university level prior to founding the Institute for Bioregional Studies. Mr. Ferraro is an accomplished environmental landscape designer and organic food production consultant.

Nancy Willis is an international award-winning journalist, specializing in regional and global environmental issues. She is bureau manager for The Guardian - Prince Edward Island's largest daily newspaper, former manager of the United Nations sponsored New Alchemy Spry Point Ark Project, and co-founder of the Institute for Bioregional Studies. Developer and promoter of other successful and innovative environmental-living projects and programs, and lengthy background in tourism and hospitality industries.

Ferraro and Willis will develop the village utilizing the technical services of a select group of experienced individuals. Sharing the vision, is the following distinguished board of advisors:

Dr. John Todd, an internationally recognized biologist and founder of the New Alchemy Institute and President of Ocean Arks International. Dr. Todd developed an ecological design field which includes energy, architecture, waste, food and ocean transport components. Dr. Todd's awards for his achievements include:

  • Chico Medes Memorial Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
  • Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Award,
  • Discover Award for Technological Innovation,
  • Chrysler Award for Innovation in Design, and the
  • Environmental Merit Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Dr. Todd sits on a number of environmental and technical boards and teaches Ecological Design at the University of Vermont.

Nancy Jack-Todd, co-founder of The New Alchemy Institute and Ocean Arks International, and editor of Annals of the Earth, a publication of Ocean Arks International and the Lindisfarne Association.

Rundell Seaman, PEI Business Person of the Year in 1997, chairperson of PEI-based Seaman's Beverages Ltd., one of the Island's oldest and largest employers and a company widely recognized for their environmental stewardship.

Dr. David Bell, author, director of the York Centre for Applied Sustainability, former dean of Environmental Studies at York University in Toronto, and host of a radio series on sustainability for the Open College in Ontario.

Dr. Norman Silber is a professor at Hofstra University Law School in New York. He is a long-time summer resident of Prince Edward Island who holds a Ph.D. in history from Yale and a Law Degree from Columbia University. He has written extensively about consumer movements and the nonprofit sector, and is active in the leadership of several U.S. consumer organizations and law reform groups.

Robert Shaw, a forth generation hotel operator of Shaw's Hotel (in business on Prince Edward Island since 1860), graduate of Guelph University's Hotel and Tourism Management program, former president of the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island (TIAPEI), member of the board of directors for the Atlantic Institute of Tourism and Hospitality at Holland College.

Jay Shanks, master builder, designer and home building contractor; five-time winner of New Hampshire Builder of the Year Award.
